Why I Tune Pianos?
Because you can't Tuna Fish. Currently, I mainly tune "by ear" using Fourths & fifths" for the temperament checking it with contiguous thirds and triads. Octaves are then tuned using a combination of checks of 4ths and 5ths, 3rds and 6ths assuming different octave ratios. In addition, each piano gets a bit of a "stretch" on the low and high end to keep it as pleasant sounding as possible: -how much of this depends on the piano and size. I also use electronic tuners upon request and in concert / performance situations. NEW Technology is worth knowing about and using, however, I believe tuning a piano well with out it certainly makes using it much more beneficial for you and me!! The electronic tuners have improved so much since my apprenticeship, that perhaps had I learned now more would have been done with a machine. The trick with the machines is knowing how to hear a piano and use the presets and machine to make the piano sound good. -The machine is only as good as the operator.
Standard Rate
- $85.00 within 40 mile round trip
- $95.00 within 60 mile round trip
- Over 60 miles round trip = $95.00 base + .50 cents per mile after 60 miles

**$75.00 per hour labor rate based on 1/4 hour for all additional repair work
***Tuning more than one piano in a given area will reduce the mileage surcharge by the number of pianos tuned (so tell your friends and sign them up!)
